Start by weighing your paddle

Your paddle supplier may have sent you a card with the paddle weight on it. You may have a food/luggage scale that you can use.

Decide how much weight you would like to add to your paddle.

See average paddle weight chart here

Decide if you would like to change the balance of your paddle

Try and match the balance to your natural swing and playing style.

Measure the head balanced line of your paddle

See instructions here.

Determine where you would like to add lead tape based on your chosen paddle balance

Clean the edge of the paddle using rubbing alcohol

Allow time for the paddle edge to thoroughly dry

Start adding lead tape strips in pairs (see additional comments in the next item)

Peel off the backing tape and apply the lead tape to the paddle edge along its length.

Using a clock face reference with 9 and 3 lined up on the head balance line add lead tape as follows:

a. To increase weight at the top of the paddle add lead tape at the 11 and 1 positions and/or the 10 and 2 positions

b. To increase weight at the bottom of the paddle add lead tape at the 7 and 5 positions and/or the 8 and 4 positions

c. To maintain the current balance of the paddle add lead tape at the 9 and 3 positions.

Don’t try and add all the weight at once

Test the feel of the paddle after adding each pair of lead tape strips.

Test the weight and paddle balance as you go

Once you have the added your planned amount of weight you are ready to add edge tape
